A crossdresser's thoughts on life, fashion, fabulousness, and (oh yeah) dressing up

Random stuff: Two deserving LGBT Chamber honorees

While I spend the weekend recuperating from a grueling work week, I want to highlight a Wisconsin-related, Madison-related, LGBT-related story I came across this morning.  The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is, yes, an organization of businesses that promote economic growth, business opportunities, and blah blah blah.  But note the inclusion of the acronym “LGBT” in their name.  Yes, in addition to all that stuff about promoting economic growth, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is an advocate for and promoter of LGBT-owned or -allied businesses and professionals in Wisconsin.

On Friday, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of its Business Awards program, which recognizes members of the organization who have built, committed to, and promoted diversity and fair treatment in the state’s business community.  Two of the honorees that stood out in the CC’s announcement were both in the culinary industry.  One of them was MOXIE Food & Drink in the Milwaukee suburb of Whitefish Bay, which earned LGBT [Owned] Business of the Year.”  MOXIE was singled out for “building an inclusive restaurant that welcomes all people,” as well as being an active chamber member and event participant.  What’s worth noting is the fact that MOXIE only opened at the end of 2016, so their standing out as both a welcoming establishment and entertaining restaurant so quickly should be applauded.  Oh, judging from their website, MOXIE’s menu looks downright mouthwatering.

The Chamber also bestowed an award to a restaurant from right here in Madison, Short Stack Eatery.  I mentioned on here last month about Short Stack’s combination of breakfast cuisine and drink specials; how they cater to the college crowd (they’re open almost around the clock on weekends); and how they openly support and welcome the LGBT community as a whole and trans people in particular.

It's official! Short Stack is now repping the Philadelphia Pride flag & the Trans Pride flag! We are overdue for recognizing and supporting our LGBTQ+ friends and allies, and we wish to make it known that our SSE community is a safe space for any and all breakfast lovers, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. At SSE, we stand behind everyone who has ever felt marginalized or ostracized for their truth, and we pledge to remain sustainable partners in the ongoing fight for equality, recognition, and justice. We take pride in the individual stories of our amazing staff, partners, customers, friends… we hope you'll join us over the next month as we honor all the reasons why equity matters! #SSEforEquity #LoveForAll #TakePride #bettertogether #lovewins #ssedoingcoolshit #sse #shortstackeatery #shortstack #pride #lgbtq

It’s Short Stack’s clear and intentional support of LGBT individuals, not to mention its participation in LGBT- and Chamber-related events, that earned them the LGBT Chamber’s “Allied Business of the Year.”  (Side note:  Don’t scroll down to the comment section of that article link; the trolls were in full force.)  The trans/CD support group I’m a part of have dined together at Short Stack, and not only did we enjoy the delicious food and eclectic atmosphere & decor, we truly appreciated how they support our community, not to mention how they respected us as customers and human beings.  One of these days, I’ll devote a post to Short Stack, but it’s so good to say right now that they’re deserving of this recognition, for they have our community’s back without reservation.  Congrats, Short Stack!  And congrats, too, to the other winners of the LGBT Chamber’s Business Awards for 2018.

A part of the trans community ("cross-dresser" is the term that applies to me) who finds themselves much more expressive and somewhat more confident when presenting in a feminine persona. An admirer and supporter of those who are fashionable, fabulous, and friendly (LGBT or otherwise). Someone who tries to be witty and unique, but is not even remotely perverted or a pariah (I am a real human being, just like you). Using various writing styles on this blog to communicate thoughts and feelings concerning my life experiences, fashion sense, and the world at large (and maybe impressing my high school creative writing teacher who deservedly gave me middling grades).
