I feel a bit embarrassed to say this, but I haven’t logged onto here the past couple of days. This seemed like one of those periods where I just wanted to get away from the blog; you know, not concern myself too much about when I’ve written, how much I’ve written, or how many people have visited my blog. Oh, and the fact that I didn’t have any thoughts or ideas to write about in a ready-to-be-posted post.
So, what have I been doing the past few days? A few things. I am trying to get back into the running kick after a bit of a cold-weather-influenced layoff. Having the gym at work to myself on a quiet Sunday morning is not only a nice motivator for running, but also a nice way to gather my thoughts. One of those thoughts is trying to remember some of the new tasks I’ve recently learned at work. The team I’m a part of always seems to have one task after another coming in, though not at an overwhelming rate. I had training on a new (for me) system last week, and I’m hoping I’ll put that training to some use in the coming days and weeks, lest all that knowledge atrophy in my mind (which wouldn’t be fun).
Oh, and one more thing: I’m starting to watch the way I eat. Yeah, it’s a must-do for everyone when you think about it, but I’ve always had a nasty habit of paying no mind to how or what I eat and how often. It’s led to a few extra pounds on my figure that’s still rather average yet saddled with a few extra pounds here and there. That’s why I signed up for a program offered by the insurance I have through work. The program is one of those “eat anything you want” type of things, so it’s not a diet. But it does promote good practice about knowing when you’re hungry and managing that hunger in an effective way. I’m not sure if I’ll be successful at it, but if I do manage to lose a few pounds in the process — and do so in a healthy way, of course — I’ll manage to lose that bit of flab I call a spare tire around my waist.
And if I do lose that spare tire, perhaps it’ll motivate me to keep up running… enough to, say, run another 5 mile race come springtime. If you recall last spring, I ran in my very first Crazylegs Classic. I did so well that I feel motivated enough to do it again. Of course, I gotta sign up before I do that, but I’ve got 3 months do so. Wish me luck!
