So, peoples, has your week been as busy as mine has been? Yeah, I’ve been busy virtually the entire week, up to and including today (Sunday). And the strange thing about it is I actually took the entire week off from work. You’re probably reading that last sentence and are wondering, “Gee, Allison, isn’t not being busy the point of taking an entire week off from work?” Well, what can I say? I can be a busy beaver sometimes.
So, how did I keep busy? I certainly didn’t travel anyplace, that’s for sure. Not that I didn’t want to; I would’ve loved getting away from Madison for a little while. It’s just that I took one look at all the junk in my closet and told myself that it really needs a cleaning. Place any new stuff in there and it would become as cramped as Fibber McGee’s closet. So, I underwent the heavy-duty task of cleaning it out. The most noteworthy thing I did in there was sort out all of the girly stuff I keep in bins (e.g. shirts, some skirts, jeans). Before, I would lump most of the stuff into a couple of big bins. Now, they’re sorted out into smaller bins (skirts in one bin, tops in another, dresses in another). One look at the finished effort and I smacked myself in the forehead thinking, “Gee, why didn’t I dare myself to do this much sooner?”
But my girly stuff was just part of the problem with that closet. I still had a lot of stuff back there. A lot of non-girly stuff.
So, I spent my Saturday afternoon paring down some more stuff, from some old magazines I forgot I still had to other items that had no reason to be in there. As result, my closet is… well, it still has some extra stuff in there, stuff that I will no longer need one day and give to Goodwill or recycle. But at least what’s still in there is much more straightened out. Which reminds me… that’s only one closet cared for. I actually live in a two-bedroom apartment! Guess I’ll have to
take a look (and hold my nose) at clean that closet some other week (there’s a lot of stuff in there, too).
You’re probably asking if I at least got out of the house for a little bit during the week. Well, yes, on a few fronts. On Tuesday, for example, I spent the afternoon traversing the UW–Madison Arboretum, which is a preserved natural landscape on the south side of Madison. It’s so beautiful and tranquil, you totally forget it’s alongside one of Madison’s busiest highways. It also doesn’t feel like the same place twice, so I hope to go there again this year before the snow starts flying. I also did the volunteer thing just this afternoon, helping out with my place of employment’s contribution to a suburb’s annual summer parade. I was tasked with handing out flyers and candy to the kids as I walked along the parade route. Though I had a tiny bit of difficulty in a spot or two, I think my running kick helped me keep up with the float. (Sort of) healthy living prevails!
I should note that I did get out of the house last Sunday afternoon as well. No, it wasn’t as a volunteer or a participant, but I took in the annual LGBT pride parade on State Street downtown. Before you ask if I dressed up as Allison, well… I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t dress up. I must not have had the urge to dress up, I suppose. Or, I should reword that: When taking my unfortunately aborted attempt to dress up and march last year into consideration, my urge to take in the event outweighed my urge to dress up and take part. At least I had a grand time, and I did take some photos and even a video… which, I’m embarrassed to say, I haven’t gotten around to reviewing and posting, what with my ginormous to-do list involving the closet. But I do resolve to show some of the footage to you and write a post about the event; it’s worth talking about, even if my talking about it will be a bit tardy.
But, with all my straightening out and whatever else during the week, at least I did… wait for it… get dolled up and snap a few new pictures! Yep, I did find time on a mostly rainy, definitely muggy Wednesday afternoon to stay in the house, let the closet be for a moment, and put a dress and makeup on for the camera. If I don’t preoccupy myself in the coming week, especially when it’s a week I head back to work, I’ll sort out, spruce up, and post some of those new photos of yours truly en femme. I can’t wait for you to see them.
