A crossdresser's thoughts on life, fashion, fabulousness, and (oh yeah) dressing up

Allison’s Sunday Best

Happy Sunday, peoples!  After reading the latest June Jour writing prompt from F.C. late this morning, I’ve been rubbing my hands in happy anticipation to respond.  Her prompt today is right up my alley:

Time for your Sunday best! (whether to church, a party, night at home, etc) What would be your ideal outfit, and why? Feel free to snap a photo of it as well!

Yay!  A writing challenge and a fashion post; and I haven’t done the latter in a while, so it’s about time I get the chance to talk up fabulous clothing.  So, I scoured tore up trashed went through my female side closet and pulled out a couple of items that I think are simple and suitable for that dream Sunday to-do, something I could get dolled up and shave my legs for.  And, yes, I do have some photos (of the clothing, not of shaving my legs).  First is this cream colored jacket I found a couple of years ago at Forever 21.  This jacket goes rather well, I think, for either a formal get-together at the church(!) or supper club or an informal lunch at an outdoor restaurant on State Street.  Speaking of outside, the color is nice and bright and perfect for the warmer months.

As for what’s underneath the jacket, well, I like to pair it with a casual shirt, as shown below, although I could suggest you pair it with a blouse or maxi dress if I were to recommend it to you, especially one of a contrasting yet warm color.  The shirt I have displayed in the below photos, is something I bought with the jacket at Forever 21; it’s gray on the sleeves and back but has a faux leather panel all over the front.  As for the below right photo, I pared the jacket and shirt with a nice, black polyester Merona skirt I found at WalMart a few years ago; the skirt is lightweight, comfortable, and doesn’t take anything away from the jacket.  Oh, lest the camera angle fool your perspective, this skirt actually goes just past the knees; it’s not as long as the picture makes it out to be.

Below is another example of how to coordinate this jacket.  This photo from last August has me pairing it with a “LOVE” shirt I found at WalMart as well as a short leather miniskirt I found a couple years ago at Express.  Now, a short leather skirt may not be your idea of “Sunday best” or “church suitable” and I would understand that, but I could recommend this outfit for a Sunday evening out with friends, especially if it’s a day-into-night event.

Something else I could pick out for a Sunday evening out, or even a formal indoor event earlier on Sunday, is this comfy black and blue Jessica Howard dress I once found at Goodwill. (Yes, it’s black and blue; don’t even think for a second there’s any gold in it.)  The polyester material feels like faux suede to the touch, it has a form fitting feel, and the diagonal lines are eye catching.  But the dress still has a classy feel to it.

One more outfit: Going the elegant yet daring route, I go all out below with this purple blouse with nice frills down the front.  I found the blouse at Boston Store several years ago, and paired it in this photo with this H&M skirt with a PVC front panel.  A classy outfit?  With that blouse, definitely.  Eye catching?  With that skirt, definitely.  For Sunday brunch?  For sure, and let those heads turn.  For spring or summer?  Well, it’s probably more for a cool spring day (as was the case when I snapped these pictures a couple of years ago) or for fall.  And if the weather is indeed cool outside, I can pair it with this PVC jacket that perfectly compliments the skirt (please forgive the lack of flash lighting).

I’d love to know what your idea of a “Sunday best” would be.  Please feel free to share your ideas in the comments below.  Thanks! 🙂

    • Aww, thank you so much. 🙂 Well, that Jessica Howard dress is a size 8; it’s dry clean only; and Heaven knows what year it comes from… all of which made me jump for joy when I found it at Goodwill (and I jumped even higher after it fit me just right in the fitting room cubicle). It is an awesome dress, isn’t it? If you really, REALLY want it and if you think it’ll fit you to a T, let me know. 😉
