Okay, lest I let this blog grow too fallow (it’s been almost 2 weeks since I put in anything new), I will start off this post with this blast from the past:
This was me 5 years ago, sporting a white casual shirt and topping it off with a blonde bob and a black hat. I can’t remember where I found either of these, but I took a liking to them at first sight at the store. I use the term “casual” to describe the shirt, for as you can see it doesn’t button up all the way to the neck, as I’m so used to seeing with the male mode dress shirts I wear to work every day. The casual feel is emphasized in the not-quite-long sleeves, which are buttoned at the cuff — again, just like a more formal shirt — but are easier to roll up and keep out of your forearms’ way. The casualness of the sleeves are much more pronounced in this pic:
Oh, you may notice the ruched area in front, especially around the button areas. The folds give this shirt a sort of messy, unkempt feel of sorts (again, it’s suited for casual wear). That being said, however, you could still put a blazer over it and wear it for a night on the town. Just a little bit of a suggestion I throw out there.
Oh, you’ll notice the white-on-black contrasts with this ensemble in these pictures?
I’m not sure if the white shirt makes the black accessories stand out more or vice versa, but the color contrast looks so appealing to me. Speaking of accessories, let’s talk about the hat; it has such a youthful, free-spirited feel to it, doesn’t it? The wraparound bow and curled up brim accentuates the hat’s playfulness. Still, the hat does have an air of sophistication, which is really brought out by paring it with these stylish gloves. Note carefully the gloves’ “double material”: They’re mainly leather, notably in the ares of the palms, wrists, and thumbs, but they have a shiny vinyl cover over the back of the hand. I still have these gloves, and they still give me a snug fit; they’re stylish for any on-the-town adventure you may have, especially on a chilly fall or winter evening. This next picture shows off these gloves much better:
Okay, you’re wondering about what I had on underneath the shirt? The above pics had me wearing a simple black bra. But this next one has me flashing (*LOL*) a black bustier.
Yeah, I had a bit of a playful pose here, don’t you think? If you want the shirt buttoned up a little bit, it’s probably best to go with a bra or something similar underneath. But if you want to go without the button-down feel, it’s best to go with something like a halter or bustier. Either way, there’s still some sex appeal, and for a schlump like me, a need to hide that spare tire around the middle. (insert embarrassed face here) For below the belt, you can go with anything you want; in this case here, I went with my trusty liquid black leggings.
I’ll end this post with a relaxing in the sun pose on my couch. The full outfit (minus the hat and gloves, sorry) is on full display, with the late afternoon March sunshine beaming through my living room window giving a dramatic effect, especially on the leggings.
For the record, I still have this shirt and the gloves in my wardrobe, and I pulled them back out on Memorial Day weekend, got dolled up again, and snapped a few more pictures with other pieces in my closet. I’m still in the process of going through them and editing and sprucing them up. Don’t worry, I’ll put them up on my Flickr photostream very soon. But if you want just a little bit of a hint, check out my current Twitter icon.
